PC Gone Mad

The world is a crazy place.
Someone I know very well had a little 'dizzy spell' over the weekend and collapsed in the street.
He was with his wife and two young kids and sadly not one person stopped to ask if they needed help! People walked and drove past without a second glance. The even more annoying thing is that both of these people would be first in line to aid or assist anyone.
What is wrong with everyone?
I know in this day and age a lot of us are afraid to interfere in case of reprisal for not minding our own business but to walk past someone in distress who is lying on the ground is taking it a bit too far I reckon.

I also heard another story recently where a female friend of mine came across a little girl in distress outside a dept store in town. She knelt down to talk to the little girl and see what was wrong.
About a minute later a middle aged man came up to her and said he had just followed this little girl who was obviously lost, from one end of the town to the other but was terrified to approach her in case he was accused of something.
He didn't want to let her out of his sight in case something happened to her and hoped a woman would eventually would stop to assist.
He said most people had completely ignored her even though she was quite young and obviously very upset. They all just walked right past focused on their own lives.
Eventually my friend and the man found the mother of the little girl.
She grabbed the little girl, started screaming at her for wandering off and didn't utter as much as a thank you to the two rescuers.
It wasn't always like this. Has political correctness gone overboard and people are actually afraid to get involved or is it just that no one cares anymore?

Weekend Plans

It's the end of a long week!
Work was pretty busy and next week is shaping up to be even more so.
My son is off to Switzerland for the weekend to the beautiful village of Kandersteg,
on a scouting weekend.

I wish I was going too as it is so picturesque there and the air feels really clean and healthy. The last time I was there was a couple of years ago and it's the kind of place you never forget.
The older brother of 'The Little Tornado' got two guinea pigs yesterday for his Birthday. They are quite cute but I don’t think I would like the cleaning duties attached...
The small guy thinks they are little dogs and keeps shouting 'hello doggies' into the cage! He would love nothing better than to be able to open the cage and pick them up to play with. The two little animals just keep themselves buried under a mountain of straw until he moves off again!
I have no weekend plans but maybe it's time to sort out that wardrobe and put away all thoses summer clothes that never got a chance to see the light of day this year.
Then again there's always next weekend..........

Taking Advantage

Its now the start of October and I am only getting around to writing my next post.
Work has been hectic and will be even busier during October.
The title of this post refers to cost of gluten free food which unfortunately I have to rely on.
Its how expensive it is that totally frustrates me.
Its nearly €3-00 for a very small loaf with about 12 tiny slices - 2 are equal to one slice of 'normal' bread. So basically I'm paying 50c for an average portion of bread. You could nearly buy a whole loaf for that in some of the supermarkets!
I'm not mean or stingy but it doesnt stop at bread and rolls. There's pasta, biscuits, and sauces too which I buy on a regular basis. All about double or triple the price of 'normal' ones! It would be nearly worth it if most of it didnt taste like stale cake or baked cardboard.
It would also be good if these 'cheeky' manufacturers/distributors could use a little imagination and expand the choices. How nice it would be to occasionally walk in to the supermarket and be able to buy simple things like fish fingers or a frozen pizza or a nice apple pie or something yum from the bakery! But alas no.
Although to be fair the choice has improved a lot over the past few years and Tesco to give them their due have the widest choices and best tasting products I have come across. I know in the UK they have a much more varied choice than we have here in Ireland, especially the Sainsbury brand.
I could probably buy some stuff online but then with shipping costs I'm back to being reduced to paying even more for basic foodstuffs.
So that's my release of steam for today. Hopefully I will make an effort to log in here a little more regularly.

The Little Tornado

I went back to work a few months ago after being off for a year. As it happened my darling little nephew was born a couple of weeks after I finished work. It was good fun and a nice feeling to be around to help my sister out with him. She is 10 years younger than me and an amazing mother who spreads her time as evenly as she can between her four kids. To be honest I don’t know how she does it sometimes. Apart from all the kids activities she also works part time with her husband.

This little guy is turning into a tornado now and because he is the youngest of all the family – cousins etc, we all have him spoiled and want to know every detail of what he gets up to. I love being back at work but I really miss seeing him every day. He is 16 months now. He is so cute and he obviously loves all the attention and does his little tricks on command and waits for the smiles and applause. He climbs on EVERYTHING and you can’t turn away for a second. I have taken hundreds of pictures of him since he was born but my favourite at the moment is this one where he is ‘smiling’ for the camera.

My first post!

Here goes nothing....or maybe not!

I have always wanted to start a blog and here I am!
Now that I have set it up I don't know where to begin lol.
My blog name refers to the fact I am wheat intollerant.
I spend a lot on time online searching for new and different
recipes for pastry and cake that doesnt taste like you are eating
an old sponge or a cardboard box!
That's just one of many reasons I wanted to start a blog.
So I think I will keep this first post short and sweet and save some for next time.
I have so much to learn about customising this and adding stuff - but all in good time.
